The Arturo Fuente story begins in 1887 in Güines, Cuba, where the man himself was born, and truly takes root in 1912 when a 24-year-old Arturo founded A. Fuente & Company in West Tampa, Florida — rolling handmade cigars with Cuban tobacco from a small shop on Francis Street. By 1980, Carlos Fuente Sr. and his son Carlito had opened Fuente LTD in Santiago, Dominican Republic, planting the flag that would become the permanent home of one of the most celebrated cigar dynasties in the world. In 1992, Carlito Fuente accomplished what the industry said couldn't be done — successfully growing Dominican wrapper tobacco at the family's Château de la Fuente farm, producing the first 100% Dominican puro cigar ever made.
