About Arturo Fuente

The Arturo Fuente story begins in 1887 in Güines, Cuba, where the man himself was born, and truly takes root in 1912 when a 24-year-old Arturo founded A. Fuente & Company in West Tampa, Florida — rolling handmade cigars with Cuban tobacco from a small shop on Francis Street. What followed over the next century was equal parts perseverance and passion: factory fires, the Cuban embargo, a Nicaraguan revolution that forced the family to flee for their lives, hurricanes that leveled tobacco barns — and yet the Fuentes rebuilt every time. By 1980, Carlos Fuente Sr. and his son Carlito had opened Fuente LTD in Santiago, Dominican Republic, planting the flag that would become the permanent home of one of the most celebrated cigar dynasties in the world. Four generations later, the company remains entirely family owned and operated, guided by the same foundational principle Arturo himself instilled: quality tobacco, quality craftsmanship, and never rushing the process.

That philosophy produced what many consider the most consequential achievement in modern cigar history: the Fuente Fuente OpusX. In 1992, Carlito Fuente accomplished what the industry said couldn't be done — successfully growing Dominican wrapper tobacco at the family's Château de la Fuente farm, producing the first 100% Dominican puro cigar ever made. The OpusX changed how the world thinks about Dominican tobacco and became one of the most coveted smokes on earth. Today, the Arturo Fuente portfolio spans everything from the approachable, everyday elegance of the Gran Reserva and Hemingway series to the collector-driven rarity of OpusX and Fuente Aged Selection releases — a range built not on marketing, but on more than 110 years of hard-won mastery at the rolling table.

The line includes several vitolas — most famously the round‑to‑square No.77 “Shark” — and Añejo releases often appear as limited or holiday offerings with slow, even burns and a collector‑oriented presentation.
