Note: Updated January 11th, 2026
I am updating this review after the original version from the 2025 Holidays. I have had the chance to talk with the owner Frank about my comments from that review and we were able to touch on all the points and he took the time out of his schedule to walk me through some of the misconceptions that I had about the business since him and his business partner took over the locale from the Empire chain.
First, I'll touch on some of the points that I mentioned in the prior review and the updated details pertinent to them.
RSVPs: The old RSVP system was allowing people to take advantage of the new services being provided by S&B to its patrons. Previously under Empire, tasting events and so forth were strictly for members. One of the first things the new ownership did was open these events to non-members as well (I can speak to this since I have been attending the events now). Also, the previous member seating area was opened up to the general public with members getting priority seating in the case of high traffic evenings. The choice to migrate to RSVP-via-phone was made to assure that priority is given to those that are actual patrons of the business. I voiced my concerns about the clarity of the phone number and RSVP instructions and Frank says they will work with the social media team to make it happen as soon as possible.
Cigar Selection: I had previously mentioned that the selection has lowered in quality. Frank walked me through the updates to the humidor, showing that a lot of the newest and most limited edition cigars are actually stocked across the humidor where room was made for these unique offerings from S&B. I also should mention, which I failed to mention before, that S&B has many cigars not available anywhere else (even the specialty stores across Miami) and usually at better prices even if they are available at other stores.
Staff Changes: I had mentioned that many of the people who use to give the location a very particular ambiance had left since the change in ownership. This topic of the conversation went into a lot of detail about how the goal is to create an environment that is professional and provides the utmost quality of service, thus attracting the type of patronage that serves the business just as deeply as the business serves its customers. This change I can admit is true since the change in ownership and the level of professionalism, cleanliness, and service has improved and rivals high-end bars like what you would find in South Beach. There is a bit of a staff shortage at the moment because the owners and GM want to make sure they hire the best employees and bring in the kind of people that will best serve the new direction the business is trying to go.
New Additions to the Review: This section is to cover some information I was not aware of and I am happy to share as a long-time customer and patron of the lounge. For starters, Alfie is now the General Manager of S&B which is incredible thing. For the unaware, Alfie use to run mainly the bar (which is why S&B has such an incredible selection of liquors and masterfully crafted drinks). One of the changes was to promote him to General Manager to have him oversee the other aspects of the business. Many of the improvements that I have discussed are thanks to Alfie's hard work and dedication to the business with the support of the new ownership. As a long time customer and someone who knows Alfie personally through the lounge, this is a great move for the future of S&B.
Closing Statements: I want to thank Frank for taking the time to come over to me on a Sunday and discuss my concerns, tour changes to the business, and discuss areas of improvement. Not every owner cares enough to take their time to discuss things like he did and I think that is noteworthy. Frank is around almost all the time and if you have any concerns, I strongly recommend you ask for him and feel the freedom to discuss your concerns with him.
Absolutely the best place in Miami to go for a chill experience and atmosphere. This place is absolutely amazing. Amazing in every single way. The music, the atmosphere, the drinks… Everything. Outstanding experience, every time I’ve been here.
If you’re looking for the ultimate cigar and spirits experience in Miami, Smoke & Barrel Lounge at Dadeland Center is the place to be. The lounge offers an extensive selection of premium cigars and an impressive lineup of top-shelf spirits, perfect for both connoisseurs and casual enthusiasts. The atmosphere is unmatched—comfortable, relaxed, and ideal for unwinding after a long day or enjoying a night out with friends.
What truly sets Smoke & Barrel apart is the exceptional service. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help you find the perfect cigar or craft cocktail to suit your mood. Everything you need for a premium lounge experience is right here, making it the perfect spot for anyone in Miami who values great cigars, excellent drinks, and a stress-free, luxurious environment.
I’ve been coming to this cigar bar for about four years, back when it was Empire. Empire was fine, but you rarely saw the owners they were never really around. Since it became Smoke & Barrel, everything has completely changed for the better.
The owners are hands-on and present, always there, always engaging. You’ll never feel like you’re sitting alone someone will strike up a conversation, whether it’s the owners, staff, or fellow patrons. It truly feels like a community.
The drinks are amazing, the bartenders are top-tier, and the waitresses are beautiful, attentive, and incredibly kind. I was there last Saturday for the holiday party, and even though the place was absolutely packed, the service never skipped a beat. I didn’t even have a reservation (which I probably should have given how busy it was), yet they still treated me exceptionally well.
This place is easily on its way to becoming one of the top cigar bars in Miami whether you’re hanging with friends, relaxing solo, or just want a great spot to watch the game. The atmosphere, the people, the staff, the ownership everything is on point. And let’s not forget the wide variety of cigars, which really completes the experience.
Thank you, Smoke & Barrel. Kendall truly needed a place like this.
While out of town for work I stumbled across this gem. Absolutely wonderful environment. Staff and owners are very friendly treating you as family. They are very knowledgeable in cigars and helpful in picking out the perfect cigar for you from their large selection. The liquor selection is top notch and had exactly what I was looking for couldn't wait to go back there and sad I had to go back home.
