This shop is the ABSOLUTE GOLD STANDARD for what a great pipe and smoke shop needs to be. Douglas is the consummate salesman. He gave my wife and me excellent guidance and walked us through purchases and I'm 100% satisfied. Even my wife bought her first pipe! I also got to make some exciting purchases of ephemera & tobacciana I've long sought. I waited far too long to visit Iwan Ries & Co. You shouldn't wait! Take your Pipe Pilgrimage and visit soon!

Finally made it to Iwan Ries, a bucket list place for me as an early 40s pipe smoking enthusiast. Enough has been said about the history of this storied tobacconist, so I’ll stick to my experience. From the moment myself and my pipe smoking (younger!) brother entered, we were treated as friends and fellow enthusiasts. We browsed pipes and tobaccos in a casual, friendly, and fun environment and were able to talk about what we liked but were also shown a lot of things we had never experienced. The team at Iwan Ries were clearly experienced pipe smokers and tobaconnists with decades of experience but we did not feel silly or out of place for our more limited experience or silly questions. These folks are a fun group to chat with and learn from, no matter if you’re completely new and curious or an experienced pipe smoker. We were encouraged to try house blends in the pipes we brought and enjoyed a good smoke while we chatted. I bought a bucket list pipe as an early gift to myself as well as several tobaccos and other supplies. We also paid to use the members lounge and enjoyed the relaxing and beautiful smoking lounge for a couple of hours. I’ll be back, this was such a fun and excellent experience. They will also validate your parking and save you a lot of money! Thanks again to the IR team and I’ll see you again soon!

This is a very enjoyable cigar store to patronize. I first came here in 1977 when I was in law school, nearly 50 years ago. I resumed smoking cigars at 72. I can’t stop now. They have a beautiful shop, all wood and glass. There’s a smoker’s club that is too pricey for me, but I’ve seen it. There is smoking allowed in the shop. Quite a nice selection of cigars, pipes and pipe tobacco in abundance. Knowledgeable and courteous staff if a little snooty. I think the humidity control could be a little better. And no wooden matches w/purchase. I think they’re $3.50. I need free wooden matches, preferably the long ones. Prices are reasonable for Chicago Loop and high Illinois tax. They will mail to out of state without charging excise tax (36 - 40%). It’s a very good tobacconer. Edit: I’m revising up to 5 stars. This really is an excellent smokery.

I recently bought a very nice humidor here and stocked it with some very nice cigars with the help of the amazing staff. This is a cigar and pipe tobacco Mecca! I walked in behind some French tourist who were fascinated by the store and its vast selection. I love this place and I will be back often It Feels Like Home if you are a cigar pipe smoker!
