Project 40 Maduro keeps the original’s straightforward mission but pushes flavor toward roast and earth. The Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper over a Brazilian Habano binder and all‑Nicaraguan filler brings a mineral, slightly roasted backbone that favors coffee and dark chocolate. The Habano Brazil binder and Nicaraguan fillers add depth, sweetness and spicy lift—black pepper or baking spice on the retrohale—while construction reviews are generally positive. The progression tends to run dark cocoa and cedar up front, coffee and toasted bread in the middle, finishing on lingering earth and restrained spice; a minority of tastings report occasional bitterness late in the nub or variable draw tightness in some samples.
