About La Aroma de Cuba

La Aroma de Cuba traces its roots to the late 1880s in Cuba, where the brand became an early favorite of Winston Churchill. In 1895, Churchill arrived on the island as an eager young lieutenant in the midst of Cuba's rebellion against years of Spanish conquest — and there, alongside the genesis of his brilliant military career, his avid passion for handmade cigars emerged. La Aroma de Cuba became one of the two brands he would carry with him for the rest of his life, cementing the name into cigar history long before the brand's most remarkable chapter had even begun. The brand eventually faded from production — until Ashton Distributors, researching the storied cigars of Churchill's era, rediscovered the name and recognized an opportunity to resurrect a genuine piece of tobacco history. The modern revival of La Aroma de Cuba began in the early 2000s with a series of popular handcrafted releases, packaged in boxes and bands adorned with the brand's original nineteenth-century artwork — and cigar lovers embraced the classic old-world appeal immediately.

Today, La Aroma de Cuba is blended and produced by legendary cigarmaker José "Pepín" García in Estelí, Nicaragua. It is a partnership that brings together two of the most respected names in the premium cigar world — Ashton Distributors' decades of curatorial expertise and the García family's generational mastery of Cuban-style blending. A third-generation master blender in Cuba, Pepín began rolling cigars at the age of eleven and rose to oversee production of several of Cuba's most revered brands for decades — making him the ideal custodian for a brand whose entire identity is rooted in authentic Cuban tradition. The result is a portfolio built on a signature Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over aged Nicaraguan long-fillers, delivering notes of coffee, cocoa, cedar, and baking spice that feel less like a modern boutique cigar and more like a dispatch from another era — which, in the most meaningful sense, it is. From the approachable core collection to limited small-batch releases like Noblesse and Habano Reserve, every La Aroma de Cuba cigar carries the weight of that history in every draw.
